DUAL BANDS: Non-elastic blue band prevents jaw from lowering. Elastic white band provides gentle upwards force. Compound elastic-nonelastic force allows pressure to be minimized while still effective.
VERTICAL LIFT: Bands lift from under jaw and attach at the temples to produce vertical force. (Unlike standard neoprene chin straps which wrap around the tip of the chin and force the jaw directly into the jaw joint.) Vertical lift works with the natural rotation of the jaw.
COMFORTABLE: Washable. Light, breathable net-mesh cap.
Usage Tips
Use two hands (one on the strap, one on the cap) to attach the blue non-elastic band so it is fairly snug. This will prevent your jaw from lowering while jaw muscles are relaxed during sleep. Then add just a small amount of additional upwards force with the elastic band. (Putting on the Dual Band is demonstrated in the video on our homepage.) As per the graph on the Further Information page, when the jaw is closed the applied force should be minimal and wearing the Dual Band should be comfortable.
It should be noted that the Knightsbridge Dual Band is intended to be used to keep the jaw closed when the jaw muscles are relaxed during sleep. The user will be able to lower the jaw when he/she tries to do so.
Pass the straps under the jaw near the front of the jaw, and attach the straps near the front of the Velcro patch. This provides the most vertical orientation of the lift so as to work with the natural rotation of the jaw.
To provide vertical lift a full cap construction is required. This will inherently result in some degree of heat retention. The three layer net-mesh of the Premium and the 100% Indian manta cotton of the Plus are designed to provide a cap which is light and breathable. The Premium is cooler and more breathable than the Plus. It may be helpful to slightly adjust room temperature or blanket thickness.
Nasal dilators are devices that are placed in the openings of the nose to widen the air passage and make nasal breathing more comfortable (for people who are using the Knightsbridge without a CPAP machine). Our recommendations are the NasalAid nasal dilator and the light blue Snore Care Set nasal dilators. (NasalAid looks a little intimidating and is a bit more expensive than the others, but it is very comfortable and we feel it is worth the price.)
